Greek Mythology Deities Quick Recap

Artemis

Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and Leto and the twin sister of Apollo. She is the goddess of forests and hills. Artemis carries a bow and arrows, and the deer is sacred. Occasionally, greek artists depicted her next to a crescent moon, a symbol of Artemis.

Athena

Athena is the goddess of intelligence and war. Unlike Ares, who represents mainly war violence, Athena is war's strategies and intelligence. She was also the patron goddess of Athens, who built the Parthenon in her honor. Athena's symbol is the owl.

Zeus

Married to Hera, Zeus is the ruler of the gods on Mount Olympus and is the god of the sky and thunder. He was the child of Cronus and Rhea and the youngest of his siblings. He has often depicted either standing, striding forward, or seated on a throne of royalty. His symbols are the thunderbolt, eagle, bull, and oak.

Hera

Hera is the queen of the gods. She is the sister and wife of Zeus and presides over marriage and marital fidelity. The name Hera means protector or guardian. She owns a peacock with many eyes in its feathers, which can watch over her husband, Zeus.

The lily, a symbol of purity, and the pomegranate, a symbol of fecundity, were also consecrated to her.

Poseidon

Poseidon is the god of the sea. His brothers are Zeus and Hades. He was given a trident during the war between the Titans and the gods. When they overthrew the Titans, Poseidon took over the sea, among other things. He is the son of Cronus and Rhea. Poseidon's symbols are the dolphin and the trident.

Hades

Hades is the god of the underworld and the dead. Hades and his brothers Zeus and Poseidon defeated the Titans and claimed rulership over the universe ruling the underworld, sky, and sea. Because of his association with the underworld, many regards Hades as a grim figure. He is often associated with a scepter, or Cerberus, the three-headed dog. But his most widespread symbol is the cornucopia.

Medusa

Medusa was a gorgon, a mythical creature that inspired terror and possessed the divine magical power to turn people who looked directly into her face into stones.

The word gorgon means "to guard" or "to protect." In ancient Greece, her head was an amulet with the power to protect against bad omens. By the way, the name of this amulet was gorgonian.
